Working on New Painting

For this next project my goal is to create a painting with 3d elements. So over the past week I have been working on my sketches for different possible designs, but the design keeps changing as I collect more and more items to add to it. Today I went to Ac Moore  and walked around to see if I could find some more ideas and ended up adding wooden shapes and plastic easter eggs to my list of supplies.

Process:

The majority of my process takes place in my bed room with all my stuff spread out everywhere. I started off by making some notes on all of my ideas for this painting. Pretty much anything that comes into my head I write down so that I can later go through all of the ideas and sort through which ones I want to keep and use and which ideas wont work for this painting. Next I make a bunch of sketches of different compositions, until I find a composition that I'm happy with. Then I make two to four detailed sketches of this composition, changing and tweaking it until I am satisfied with my final sketch. At this point I was ready to transfer the final sketch onto my piece of canvas. This part takes me awhile because I wont start the actual painting until the design is drawn perfectly, down to the smallest details. I start painting with a medium brush and paint the large areas, later going in with a smaller brush to get in the tight spaces and paint the small details. My final step for this particular painting is to outline everything with a black ink marker to create crisp and clean edges.

Motivation/ Exploration

For my first project I wanted to continue my exploration of acrylic paint. In the past I have used mainly gouache and have a little experience with water color. I have used acrylic paint only a few times before, so I wanted to further my ability to work with this paint, so I have decided to work with a larger canvas then I have used in the past and paint the design I have been working on for a while, which is a graphic style design of a black and white hand cupping a small seed that is blossoming into a beautiful colorful flower.

Inspiration for Project 1

My inspiration for this first project came from my theory of growth. I believe when growth occurs in any form it inspires a change, wether it be personal growth, physical growth, or any form of growth. So for this piece I have a outstretched cupped hand holding a seed, and from this seed blooms a beautiful flower. The growing seed represents the action of growth with the end result being a beautiful flower which is the inspired change. That was my main idea behind this particular piece.
